# How do I use PromptPal in Claude Code or VS Code?

## Direct answer

In a terminal, run: claude mcp add --transport http promptpal https://mcp.promptpal.app. Start Claude Code, type /mcp, pick promptpal and choose Authenticate, then Allow in the PromptPal window. In VS Code with Copilot, add PromptPal to .vscode/mcp.json and click Start. Connecting needs a PromptPal Starter or Pro plan.

## Claude Code

1. In your terminal, run the command below.
2. Start Claude Code, type **/mcp**, pick **promptpal** and choose **Authenticate**.
3. A PromptPal window opens in your browser. Choose **Allow**, then go back to your terminal.

**Command**

```text
claude mcp add --transport http promptpal https://mcp.promptpal.app
```

## VS Code

1. In VS Code with GitHub Copilot, add the config below to **.vscode/mcp.json** in your project.
2. Click **Start** above the PromptPal server in that file.
3. Choose **Allow** in the PromptPal window that opens.

**.vscode/mcp.json**

```text
{
  "servers": {
    "promptpal": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.promptpal.app"
    }
  }
}
```

## What you can ask

- "Use PromptPal to write a prompt for a code review."
- "Find my PromptPal prompt for writing release notes."
- "Save this as a PromptPal prompt called Migration checklist."

Prefer files in the repo? Export your style and prompts as **CLAUDE.md**, **AGENTS.md** or an **Agent Skill** from your PromptPal Connect page.

## FAQs

### Do I need to connect Claude Code if I already connected Claude.ai?

Claude Code can use connectors you've added on claude.ai when you're signed in with the same account. Adding PromptPal with the command above gives Claude Code its own connection, which also works in the terminal.

### Does it need a paid plan?

Yes. Connecting AI apps to PromptPal is part of the Starter and Pro plans.

### Where do I see or remove the connection?

Open Connect in your PromptPal dashboard. Claude Code and VS Code appear on the Claude Code / VS Code card, with a Disconnect button.
