# How do I use PromptPal in Cursor?

## Direct answer

In Cursor, open Settings › MCP & Integrations › New MCP server, add PromptPal to ~/.cursor/mcp.json with the URL https://mcp.promptpal.app and save. PromptPal shows "Needs login"; click it and choose Allow in the PromptPal window. Then ask Cursor's agent to use PromptPal. Connecting needs a PromptPal Starter or Pro plan.

## Add PromptPal to Cursor

1. In Cursor, open **Settings › MCP & Integrations › New MCP server**. Cursor opens **~/.cursor/mcp.json**.
2. Add PromptPal as shown below and save the file.
3. PromptPal appears in the MCP list with **Needs login**. Click it, and in the PromptPal window choose **Allow**.

**~/.cursor/mcp.json**

```text
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "promptpal": {
      "url": "https://mcp.promptpal.app"
    }
  }
}
```

If you already have other MCP servers, add the **promptpal** entry inside your existing **mcpServers** object.

## What you can ask Cursor

- "Use PromptPal to write a prompt for refactoring this file."
- "Get my code review prompt from PromptPal and use it on this diff."
- "Save this prompt to PromptPal as API error handling review."

## Prefer files in your repo?

PromptPal can also export your style and prompts as **Cursor rules** (.cursor/rules/*.mdc), **AGENTS.md** or **CLAUDE.md** files from the Connect page, if you'd rather commit them to the project. See [AGENTS.md, skills or MCP?](https://www.promptpal.app/blog/agents-md-skills-or-mcp) for when each fits.

## FAQs

### Does Cursor need a paid PromptPal plan?

Yes. Connecting AI apps, including Cursor, is part of the Starter and Pro plans.

### Can my whole team use the same PromptPal prompts in Cursor?

Yes. Each person connects their own Cursor; prompts shared in a PromptPal team workspace are available to everyone with access.

### Is the MCP connection read-only?

No. Cursor can read your prompts and style and save new prompts. It can't delete prompts or change your settings.
